The 2021 edition of the African Tourism Leadership Forum and Rwanda Tourism Week had a strong emphasis on post covid recovery and intra-African travel. Following the tourism week in Kigali, the Kivu Belt DMU has hosted a fam trip for 10 different tour operators to the Kivu Belt. The tour operators were representatives or owners of African tour operator companies who package and sell experiences on the African or international market.
The fam trip was hosted by the Kivu Belt DMU and organized together with the Chamber of Tourism. During the trip, the participants got to experience what the Kivu Belt and other parts of Rwanda has to offer to visitors. Apart from Kigali, the trip included Nyanza, Nyungwe, the Kivu Belt and Volcanoes National Park. During the trip the visitors got to experience the Kings Palace, Nyungwe Canopy Walk, night fishing on Lake Kivu, a Coffee tour with a local community in Kivumu and the mountain gorillas. The Trip also showed some of the Kivu Belts top hotels and the beautiful views of the Lake Kivu, forests and surrounding hills.
For the participants it was the first time visiting Rwanda and they were impressed by what the country has to offer apart from the mountain gorillas and they were excited to include itineraries from Rwanda on their offerings.
